Spicy Hot Chocolate

spicy hot chocolate recipe

Where is your favorite place to get hot chocolate in your city?  Mine is Caribou Coffee!  I just love how rich their hot chocolate is!  I love hot chocolate.  I drink it year round–even on the hottest summer days.  It’s like the staple drink in my world.  I would love to try the many types of hot chocolate recipes all over the world someday. I think it’s so cool how a universal drink like hot chocolate has so many versions!  I heard that in Spain, the hot chocolate is literally chocolate.  Like it is melted chocolate, a super thick drink that you dip churros in… yum!  Actually I saw this on Samantha Brown’s Passport to Europe show years ago.  I heard that Mayan’s were the first to drink hot chocolate, but that it was served cold, and that spices were added.  Doesn’t that sound good (well adding spices to hot chocolate)? I thought so, so I made a version of spicy hot chocolate this morning…  Merry Christmas by the way!  I used ground ginger in my recipe, but my friend told me she uses chili peppers in hers.  I only added a dash of ginger because I didn’t want to burn my mouth, but you can add more if you want.  I dare you.  Some like it hot!
