Want to Eat Like an Olympian?
Professional athletes and top gymnasts Simone Biles and Aly Raisman know the benefits of a clean diet. Both women train on a grueling 6-day a week schedule and require quality nutrients for lasting energy and stamina. And it’s definitely working–both are top performers, dominating the sport of gymnastics, and are big winners at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. But what do these ladies eat to perform? And how can you to eat like an olympian? The answers may surprise you!
Gold medalist Simone Biles DOES NOT obsess over calories and does not cut out all carbs, but she does follow a protein rich diet that helps maintain her muscles, and strength. A typical pre-gym breakfast for Simone includes Kellogg’s Red Berries cereal and egg whites, and her lunches consist of chicken or fish. During workouts Simone likes to keep a snack handy to maintain her blood sugar levels. Her favorite workout snacks are bananas and peanut butter because they have plenty of potassium and help with muscle cramps. For dinner Simone like grilled salmon, rice, and steamed carrots.
She works hard to stay in shape, but what does silver medalist Aly Raisman’s diet look like? Aly starts the day with a cup of hot lemon water with lots of pulp. For breakfast, she eats simple wheat toast with jelly or cereal with skim milk. Aly keeps hydrated with tons of water during her training sessions, and for lunch she likes chicken breast with brown rice and veggies. She makes time for an afternoon snack of Greek yogurt with banana. And for dinner Aly prefers grilled chicken, salmon, and carb rich whole wheat pasta. Some of Aly’s favorite foods include sushi and salmon, but she avoids processed foods and white bread as much as possible!
